Zango Local Government Enjoys First-Ever General Hospital

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, has commissioned the newly established Zango General Hospital, the first general hospital ever built in the history of Zango Local Government Area.
The commissioning ceremony took place yesterday, August 6, 2026, marking another significant milestone in the state government’s efforts to strengthen the healthcare system and expand access to quality medical services across Katsina State.

In his welcome address, the Katsina State Commissioner for Health, Hon. Musa Adamu Funtua, described the project as a major achievement in the government’s drive to improve healthcare delivery and provide better medical services to the people. He noted that the hospital reflects Governor Radda’s serious commitment to transforming the health sector throughout the state.
Speaking at the event, Governor Radda expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting his administration the opportunity to complete the landmark project. He explained that the facility was established by upgrading the former Zango Comprehensive Healthcare Centre (CHC) into a fully-fledged General Hospital.
According to the governor, the hospital has been equipped with modern medical facilities to provide high-quality clinical and surgical services. He stated that the development would significantly reduce the need to refer patients to distant hospitals while improving access to quality healthcare for residents of Zango and neighboring local government areas.
Governor Radda reaffirmed that healthcare remains one of the top priorities of his administration. He highlighted several achievements recorded over the past three years, including the upgrading of four Comprehensive Healthcare Centres into General Hospitals, the renovation and expansion of other health facilities, the rehabilitation of major hospitals and operating theatres, the revitalization of more than 280 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) and the recruitment of 804 healthcare professionals.
He also listed other landmark achievements, including the establishment of a modern Dialysis Centre, the creation of a pharmaceutical production facility and the expansion of solar power infrastructure across government-owned hospitals to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.
The governor further disclosed that the state government has commenced a Medical Residency Training Programme in six medical specialties across the state’s major hospitals. He added that the administration continues to sponsor medical students in universities within Nigeria and abroad to address the shortage of qualified healthcare professionals.
Earlier, the General Manager of the Katsina State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Muhammad Nazir, assured residents that the new hospital would be managed professionally and efficiently to provide quality healthcare services.
Also speaking at the event, the Katsina State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Bishir Gambo Saulawa, commended Governor Radda for his sustained investment in the health sector and other areas of development. He described the commissioning of the hospital as the fulfillment of a key government promise to improve the welfare of the people.
In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of Zango Local Government Area, Hon. Babangida Yardaje, expressed appreciation to Governor Radda for establishing the historic hospital. He assured the governor that the people of the area would continue to support the protection, maintenance and sustainability of the facility.
In his closing remarks, Governor Radda called on the people of Zango Local Government Area and neighboring communities to safeguard the hospital and cooperate fully with healthcare workers to ensure effective and sustainable healthcare delivery.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahya Daura; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; the APC National Legal Adviser, Barr. Murtala Aliyu Kankia; the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Bala Salisu Zango; APC stakeholders, local government chairmen, members of the State House of Assembly, political leaders and other key stakeholders.
