Today, we celebrate the life and achievements of an exemplary statesman, educator, and administrator, Malam Labiru Musa Ƙafur, mni, who marks yet another year of purposeful living.
Born on October 28, 1954, in Ƙafur Local Government Area, Katsina State, Malam Labiru’s journey is a shining example of dedication, humility, and service to humanity. From his early years as a teacher to his ascent as a Permanent Secretary and distinguished member of the National Institute (mni), his story continues to inspire both young and old.
Malam Labiru’s educational journey laid the foundation for his illustrious career. He began at Ƙafur Primary School (1961–1967) and proceeded to Government Secondary School, Malumfashi (1968–1972). His thirst for knowledge took him to the School of Basic Studies at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1973–1974), where he later earned his B.A. and M.Ed degrees. His passion for administrative excellence led him to further professional development at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, Badagry (1991) and later at the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos (1998), where he earned the distinguished title mni.
Throughout his public service career, Malam Labiru Musa Ƙafur distinguished himself as a committed educator and administrator of integrity. He served as a Senior Deputy Registrar (Academic) at Katsina Polytechnic (1986–1989), and later held several strategic leadership positions in local governments and ministries across Katsina State. His competence and sincerity saw him rise to become Permanent Secretary in key ministries including Information, Finance, and Commerce, before assuming his last position before retirement as Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Katsina State.
Beyond the offices he occupied, what truly defines Malam Labiru is his character. Those who have worked with him testify to his humility, calm disposition, and gentle nature. He leads not by command but by example, inspiring loyalty and respect through his fairness and sense of justice. His colleagues and subordinates alike describe him as a man who listens more than he speaks, reflecting wisdom and emotional intelligence that are rare in leadership today.
A man of deep faith and piety, Malam Labiru’s life is guided by moral discipline and fear of God. He is known in his community as a trustworthy and dependable figure, one whose word is as good as his bond. Despite his many accomplishments, he remains remarkably humble, treating everyone, young or old, rich or poor with warmth and respect. His generosity knows no bounds, as he constantly lends a helping hand to those in need, embodying the spirit of true service and compassion.
As Patron of the Ƙafur Development Union, Alhaji Labiru has continually invested his time and resources in the progress of his hometown and the upliftment of its people. His love for community development, education, and youth empowerment reflects his belief that leadership is not about titles, but about impact. Through his guidance, many have found direction, and through his mentorship, countless careers have flourished. Malam Labiru is currently the Chairman of the Board of the Nigeria French Language Village, Badagry, Lagos. He is also a member of the governing council of the Federal College of Agriculture and Technology, Nabanye, Ƙafur, Katsina State.
On this special day, we join the WAZIRIN ƊANGALADIMAN KATSINA, Malam Labiru Musa Kafur, his family, colleagues, friends and well-wishers in celebrating a man whose life is a beacon of excellence and integrity.
