NO TO WAR
By Bashir Yahuza Malumfashi

_______________
No to war!
We raise our voice
For peace remains
The wiser choice.
When blood runs red
In desert sand,
What legacy is left
To stand?
Iran and Israel,
Hear this plea,
Let not your children
Cease to be.
The bombs may fall,
The borders flame,
But none will walk
Away the same.
The clash of faith,
The pride of men,
Revives the curse
Of war again.
But peace is not
A coward’s path.
It heals the soul
And cools the wrath.
Tehran weeps.
Jerusalem mourns,
In both towns
The grief of war is born.
The skies once blue
Now filled with ash,
As hatred turns
To mortal clash.
O world,
Take heed!
The sirens cry!
Too many innocents
Still die.
The cost of war
Is never known,
Until the seeds
Of death are sown.
Oh Diplomats,
Rise!
Not with deceit
But with resolve
That’s firm,
Complete.
Let dialogue
Replace the gun,
And build a peace
That harms no one.
For every child
Who dies in vain,
A mother bears
Eternal pain.
And every soldier
Lost to fight
Extinguishes
A future’s light.
Why trade in war
When trade can thrive?
Why bomb
The fields
Where peace could drive?
Let culture,
Art and song
Unite.
Not missiles
That eclipse
The night.
Remember Gaza’s
Shattered walls.
Remember
When Damascus falls.
Recall Beirut,
Baghdad
And Kabul.
The wages paid
When war is cruel.
And that’s true!
Let Israel lower
Its drawn spear,
And Iran lay
Its vengeance clear.
Between them
Plant the olive tree,
And break
The chains of enmity.
No war
Has brought
Enduring gain.
Just scars
Engraved
With endless pain.
Yet peace
Will yield
A thousandfold,
More precious
Than the thrones
Of gold.
The world
Must not sit back
And wait
While bombs
Decide a people’s fate.
Stand now
With wisdom,
Voice and grace
And push for peace
In every place.
United Nations,
Rise and speak!
For justice
Should defend the weak.
Not silence
Draped in formal wear,
But action bold
And truly fair.
No to war!
Let echoes ring
From mountaintop
To village spring.
No missile launched,
No gun raised high,
No orphan left
Alone to cry.
Yes to peace
And brotherhood
To shared resolve
For common good.
For only
When the swords are down,
Can mankind
Truly wear its crown.
Let the pen
And heart rebuild
What missiles
Have destroyed.
