By Bashir Yahuza Malumfashi

__________
On Saturday, His Highness, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Dr. Muhammadu Sanusi II, will lead the official launch of two major books that emphasise the importance of Da’wah (Islamic propagation) through modern communication platforms. Taskar Gizago interviewed the author of the two books, Malam Aliyu Ibrahim Sani Mainagge, on the publications, how the launch ceremony will be conducted, and other important issues relating to Islam, publishing and Da’wah. Below is the full interview:
__________
Please, give us a brief account of your background.
Malam Aliyu: My name is Aliyu Ibrahim Sani Mainagge. I am an author and translator of books, with a keen interest in activities relating to knowledge dissemination, Islamic Da’wah, moral upbringing, economics, communication media and community development.
I am the founder of ALI BABA PRESS, a publishing and printing company specialising in books written in Hausa, Arabic and English.
I have spent several years engaged in writing and translation, particularly in the field of Islamic studies. Among the major projects we have undertaken is the translation of Tafsir Ibn Kathir into twelve volumes, comprising approximately 6,000 pages. I have also worked with local and international organisations and community development groups, with the aim of promoting education and improving people’s living conditions.
My greatest ambition is to contribute to the provision of beneficial knowledge, strengthen Islamic Da’wah through writing and publications and develop approaches that will help society address the challenges of everyday life.
How many books have you published so far?
Malam Aliyu: So far, I have written, translated and produced numerous books covering various aspects of Islamic studies, Da’wah, moral upbringing and community development.
Among my major works is the translation of Tafsir Ibn Kathir into twelve volumes, comprising approximately 6,000 pages, as well as other books dealing with the lives of Muslims and community development.
Similarly, as a publishing company, ALI BABA PRESS continues to produce books that contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and public enlightenment.
Regarding the number and range of publications, our works include books on Islamic history, beginning with the biography of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which scholars have described as the first of its kind in the Hausa language.
We have also published books on the lives of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), including MAFI-FITAN MUTANE SAHABBAI (100), on 100 outstanding male Companions, and MAFI-FITAN MATA SAHABBAI (100), on 100 outstanding female Companions.
Other publications include a book on the history of the four rightly guided Caliphs of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), as well as The History of Islam in the Twentieth Century.
We have also translated books by Shahid Hasan al-Banna, including Risalatut-Ta’lim and Al-Ma’athurat, as well as works by Imam al-Ghazali, including Ayyuhal Walad and The Wisdom of Allah in the Creation of Man, among several other publications.
We are currently working on a book about the life of SHEHU USMAN ƊAN FODIO and his struggle to establish an Islamic state. We hope to adapt this work into a film under our television platform, TAJDID TV.
Please, briefly explain the contents of the two books scheduled for launch.
Malam Aliyu: The two books scheduled for launch focus on two fundamental pillars that we believe have a tremendous impact on the advancement of Islamic Da’wah in contemporary society: communication media and economics.
The first book is titled AMFANIN KAFOFIN SADARWA WAJEN YAƊA DA’AWAR MUSULUNCI (The Importance of Communication Media in Promoting Islamic Da’wah).
The book explains the importance of using communication platforms to disseminate the message of Islam and deliver knowledge to the wider society. It examines how radio, television, newspapers, magazines and modern social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Telegram and others can be utilised for this purpose.
The book aims to enlighten Islamic scholars, Da’wah workers and the general public on how to use these platforms wisely, systematically and in accordance with Islamic principles to promote truth, knowledge and good moral values.
The second book is titled AMFANIN TATTALIN ARZIKI WAJEN GINA DA’AWAR MUSULUNCI (The Importance of Economics in Building Islamic Da’wah).
This book focuses on the importance of economic resources in establishing and ensuring the sustainability of Islamic Da’wah activities. It explains how generating lawful income, managing resources responsibly, mutual assistance, charity and Islamic endowments (Waqf) can contribute to the effective and sustainable implementation of Da’wah activities.
The book also emphasises the need for Da’wah organisations to develop sustainable sources of income rather than relying solely on occasional donations or foreign financial assistance.
In summary, the two books teach that the promotion of Islamic Da’wah requires both effective communication strategies for delivering its message and a sound economic framework to sustain it.
Please, tell us the date, time and venue of the book launch. Also, mention some of the prominent personalities who have been invited and are expected to attend the event.
Malam Aliyu: By the grace of Allah, the book launch ceremony has been scheduled as follows:
Date: Saturday, 7 November 2026.
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Venue: Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies (Legal), Kano.
The event is significant not merely as a book launch ceremony but also as an opportunity to discuss ways of improving Islamic Da’wah through communication, economic empowerment and community collaboration.
Among the prominent personalities invited or expected to attend are His Highness, the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, who has graciously approved the organisation of the book launch. He will be represented by the Waziri of Kano, Alhaji Sa’adu Shehu Giɗaɗo.
Also expected is the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Hon. Murtala Sule Garo, who will attend as the Special Guest of Honour.
The Chairman of Gwale Local Government Area, Hon. Abubakar Mu’azu (Mojo), will attend as the Guest of Honour.
The Kano State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Dr. Tijjani Sani Auwal, will serve as the Chairman of the Occasion.
Alhaji Ibrahim Sabi’u (Linda) has been designated as the Chief Launcher of the books.
Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu’azu, Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, Kano, will serve as the Chief Host.
Sheikh Aminu Aliyu Gusau (Modibbo Gusau) has been invited as the First Guest Islamic Scholar and Speaker, while Sheikh Muhammad bn Uthman has been invited as the Second Guest Islamic Scholar and Speaker.
In addition, scholars, heads of government institutions and organisations, Da’wah practitioners, authors, journalists, businesspeople and other stakeholders in education and community development are expected to attend.
We hope the event will provide an opportunity to bring together Islamic scholars, leaders, wealthy individuals and other stakeholders who are committed to community development, to discuss ways of improving Da’wah activities and establishing sustainable structures for their growth.
What message or advice do you have for the general public regarding these two books?
Malam Aliyu: My appeal to the general public, particularly Islamic scholars, Da’wah practitioners, organisational leaders, businesspeople, wealthy individuals and young people, is that we must understand that the advancement of Islamic Da’wah cannot depend solely on the commitment of Islamic scholars. It requires the collective efforts and cooperation of everyone.
Today, we live in an era in which communication platforms have enormous influence on how society thinks and behaves. If we fail to use these platforms appropriately to disseminate knowledge and promote good moral values, we will leave room for others to use them to spread messages that are incompatible with our religion and cultural values.
Similarly, Da’wah activities require financial resources to publish books, run schools, organise conferences, establish communication platforms and support Islamic scholars. Therefore, we must combine our commitment to Da’wah with sound economic planning and management.
I appeal to wealthy individuals and businesspeople to regard supporting education and book publishing as a means of investing in society and seeking rewards from Allah.
I also encourage Islamic scholars, students and other knowledge seekers to read these books, discuss their contents and apply the relevant recommendations to improve their activities.
Finally, I appeal to the public to make meaningful contributions towards supporting the launch of these books and ensuring their wider circulation throughout society.
Such contributions do not necessarily have to be financial. They may include purchasing the books, promoting them, distributing copies to schools and libraries, or helping to communicate their messages to those who stand to benefit from them.
Our objective is not merely to launch books but to ensure that the knowledge contained in them reaches the wider society, produces positive changes and contributes to building Islamic Da’wah on the foundations of sound knowledge, effective organisation and sustainable economic resources.
I pray that Allah makes this undertaking beneficial to Islam and Muslims, blesses everyone who has contributed to its success and grants us the ability to apply the knowledge we acquire to improve our lives and the lives of others.
Thank you.
